Help:Editing guide

From Geometry Dash Expanded Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Geometry Dash Expanded Wiki documents levels, players, game features, and the wider Geometry Dash community. This editing guide explains how to create and improve articles, from finding sources to organising information and preparing a page for publication.

Before you start

[edit source]
  • Check whether the subject belongs on the wiki. Read the article creation policy before starting a new article.
  • Look for an existing page. Search for the subject, including alternative names, before creating another article.
  • Gather sources. Find reliable evidence for important details, including release dates, achievements, and statements about people.
  • Read the Manual of Style. The Manual of Style sets the wiki’s writing and formatting conventions. These guides explain how to apply them.

You can also improve an existing article by correcting errors, adding sources, expanding incomplete sections, or making its writing clearer.

Guides by article type

[edit source]
Work in progress!
This article is currently undergoing development and in the process of receiving additional information. You can edit it to achieve a higher standard.

Different subjects need different information and layouts. Use the guide that best matches the article you are working on.

  • User levels — writing about community-created classic and platformer levels.
  • Official levels — writing about levels available in the Geometry Dash games.
  • Players — documenting players, creators, and their contributions.
  • Level series — documenting connected groups of levels.
  • Events — documenting contests, celebrations, and other community events.
  • Teams — documenting organised groups and their projects.

Writing an article

[edit source]

An article should explain its subject clearly to readers who may be encountering it for the first time.

  • Write neutrally and distinguish documented facts from opinions.
  • Explain unfamiliar terminology or link to the Glossary where useful.
  • Support claims with sources, especially when writing about people.
  • Use images and videos to illustrate information rather than replace an explanation.
  • Follow the relevant guide without adding empty or unnecessary sections.

Images and other files

[edit source]

Before uploading a file, check whether it already exists on the wiki. Give new files descriptive names and provide accurate source and licence information.

Use captions where they help readers understand what a file shows. Only include media that contributes to the article and cannot be found through normal gameplay.

Translating articles

[edit source]

You can help make the wiki accessible to more readers by translating articles or improving existing translations. See Help:Translations for instructions on creating and linking translated pages.

Before publishing

[edit source]
  • Check names, dates, statistics, and links.
  • Preview the page and check its infobox, headings, images, and references.
  • Add the appropriate categories and page classification.
  • Write an edit summary explaining your changes.
  • Remove copied instructions, example values, and empty sections.

Articles can continue to improve after publication. If you are unsure about a detail, ask for help rather than presenting a guess as fact.
