ICE Carbon Diablo X (commonly abbreviated as ICDX) is a 1.6 Insane Demon level by Roadbose, published on 20 May 2014 after being hack-verified, and later verified legitimately by Riot on 23 May 2015. ICE Carbon Diablo X is the third and final completed instalment of Roadbose's ICE Carbon series, after ICE Carbon Zust and ICE Carbon Chaos, and is a remake of Roadbose's unfinished level ICE Carbon Demon X. It is known for its abundance of straight and diagonal flying sequences and its difficulty, formerly being deemed impossible. It was previously one of the most difficult levels in the game, often compared to Cataclysm at the time of its release, until it was discovered that Roadbose was hacking the level's verification. Riot was the first player to complete it legitimately.

Which of ICE Carbon Diablo X and Cataclysm was harder, and ultimately the hardest Demon during their era, has historically been a matter of debate among players. This debate concluded with the creation and legitimate verification of Cataclysm's successor Bloodbath and, later, the 2.0 update of Cataclysm, decisively making it harder than ICE Carbon Diablo X.

ICE Carbon Diablo X is deemed to be on the border between Insane Demon and Extreme Demon difficulty. It also remained the oldest-rated Extreme Demon until Silent Club was re-rated on 25 April 2021.

Descripton

  • 0-25%: ICE Carbon Diablo X begins with a short yet tricky cube sequence consisting of a jump over a sawblade. Next, the player enters a difficult ship sequence, navigating tight spaces and diagonal corridors. It then goes into a short ball sequence with a blue orb over a spike. Then, the player enters a UFO sequence that features a difficult first obstacle, requiring near-perfect timing. It then transitions into antigravity, followed by a size-changing portal. The player must then navigate through a one-block space before a cube portal, still in mini mode. The cube is relatively simple, involving a few fakes and straightforward jumps. A part of the cube sequence includes a trick ship portal meant to kill the player. After passing through the UFO portal, the cube sequence becomes significantly more challenging, requiring more skill. It then proceeds to a brief UFO sequence, where the player must avoid a ship portal and then navigate through the 'demon heads' into another cube sequence.
  • 25-64%: After that is a difficult ship sequence consisting of one-block spaces and invisible spikes, and then a slightly challenging mini-cube follows, passing through a simple UFO sequence, and then returns to a cube sequence. This sequence transitions into an antigravity ship sequence with a tight, diagonal space, which then reverts into a cube sequence with a few obstacles. A very tricky ball sequence comes after, involving timed switches, fakes, and orbs. It then enters an easy mini-UFO sequence, nearly identical to Clubstep's first UFO sequence. It passes through an easy ship sequence into a hard cube sequence, which requires precise timing and numerous fakes.
  • 64-100%: It then transitions to a tricky ball sequence, requiring even more timing and memorization skills. Afterwards, there is a difficult ship sequence, almost entirely made of one-block spaces, then into a cube with numerous fakes. A ship sequence similar to the second one follows, then becomes mini and enters a semi-tight diagonal part. It returns to being a cube, then a very short one-switch ball comes and instantly reverts to a cube, which enters the last part of the level. At 95%, a mini-ship sequence begins, featuring one-block spaces with routine gravity portals, and the player arrives at the creator's name and the final one-block space. This part signals the end of the level.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • ICE Carbon Diablo X was initially thought to be the #5 hardest level in the game, before later taking the #1 spot on 25 November 2014 for a brief period of time, and then once again on 17 December 2014.[1]
  • Upon the creation of the modern Demonlist on Pointercrate on 4 January 2017, ICE Carbon Diablo X was placed at #23, above The Ultimate Phase and below Cataclysm.
  • ICE Carbon Diablo X is regarded as the 15th instance of the hardest rated level in the game's history.
    • However, worth mentioning is that the original Demonlist was started in 2015 by the player loogiah,[2] meaning all levels created before 2015 were not Top 1 for the simple reason of the list determining the hardest levels in the game not existing at the time.
  • ICE Carbon Diablo X was ranked #93 in GDToday's '100 Greatest Levels of All Time' list.
  • ICE Carbon Diablo X was once thought borderline impossible until Update 1.9, when Riot completed it.
  • Andromeda originally hacked ICE Carbon Diablo X but later re-beat it legitimately as the start of his redemption.
  • ICE Carbon Diablo X originally had around 9,000 more dislikes than likes due to being hacked. However, when Cyclic also hacked it (a completion that was considered legitimate at the time), it received a huge number of likes and turned the ratio positive.
  • On 1 March 2017, ICE Carbon Diablo X was accidentally hacked by Cos8o,[3] when this level and all of Roadbose's levels except GW RoadMC2 were all somehow moved to Powerbomb's account.
  • There is a lot of debate on whether ICE Carbon Diablo X is an Insane Demon or an Extreme Demon. It has switched between the two several times in the past few years, most recently being an Extreme Demon for several months in late 2023 and early 2024.
  • On 17 August 2025, Roadbose legitimately completed ICE Carbon Diablo X after over 11 years since he initially hack-verified it, making it by far the longest time between a player hack-completing a level and then legitimately completing it.[4]
  • The placement of DoomsDay on 29 September 2017 pushed ICE Carbon Diablo X into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
    • However, ICE Carbon Diablo X returned after the Demonlist expanded from 50 to 100 in November 2017.
      • The placement of Ziroikabi on 25 June 2018 pushed ICE Carbon Diablo X into the Legacy List for the second time.
        • After the Demonlist expanded from 100 to 150 in June 2019, ICE Carbon Diablo X returned to the Extended List again.
          • However, the placement of The Lost Existence on 5 July 2019 pushed ICE Carbon Diablo X into the Legacy List for the third and final time.
            • It is one of the few Extreme Demons that was pushed into the Legacy List before the Demonlist was increased to 100 and pushed into the Legacy List three times.
            • ICE Carbon Diablo X is the first former Top 1 level of the Demonlist to fall into the Legacy List, and it is also the only 1.6-themed level to fall into the Legacy List.
