MikuMikuMikuMiku is a 2.1/2.2 Insane Demon mega-collaboration hosted, verified, and published by OddMod on 16 August 2022.[1] It is themed around the popular Vocaloid voicebank, Hatsune Miku. The level features slow cube and robot gameplay for the first fifth, then switches to extremely fast, flashy wave gameplay, with occasional UFO and cube parts.

Despite its popularity, MikuMikuMikuMiku has a mixed reputation in the community. It is criticised for its largely unbalanced gameplay, the incredibly slow and boring pre-drop, the NoNG song being considered bad, and the fact that the replacement song does not sync well with the level nor fit it in the slightest.

History

[edit | edit source]

OddMod released MikuMikuMikuMiku on 16 August 2022 and uploaded a showcase of the level to her YouTube channel three days later on 19 August 2022. Another two days later, Nexus uploaded his own showcase of the level on 21 August 2022.

In her video description, OddMod said she verified and uploaded the level three days before the showcase premiered. She also revealed that she started work on the level as far back as 2018, four years earlier, but had recently become interested in Hatsune Miku again and ended up finishing it.

Before concluding the description, OddMod stated that, because the level could cause poor performance, she included the cartoony Miku image only in the first part of the level, along with smaller versions in the backgrounds. This implies that, like Ashley Wave Trials, another level by OddMod, the Miku character would have followed the player throughout the entire level.

OddMod verified the level in 1,448 attempts, stating that she found it to be about the same difficulty as Windy Landscape.[1] Since then, the level has gone on to gain popularity extremely quickly, eventually becoming one of the most-downloaded and liked Insane Demons.

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-4%: MikuMikuMikuMiku begins with a half-speed mini-cube sequence that involves jumping over a few small spikes before landing on several pads to transition into the next sequence. A heart is also available to collect at the beginning to turn off flashing.
  • 4-14%: The illustrated Miku figure appears as the vocals of the song begin. The player encounters a simple mini-robot sequence with a few easy jumps, bouncing platforms, and automatic gravity-portal transitions.
  • 14-21%: Miku disappears, and the player enters a ship sequence taking place in the sky filled with clouds that are platforms or sawblades, requiring them to fly in a mostly straight, easy line with a few gravity portals as well as a mini portal.
  • 21-33%: Still mini, the player enters a cube portal, though there is eventually a portal to return them to normal size. Miku reappears, and the jump difficulty picks up a bit, as some spikes are hard to see and blend into the decoration.
  • 33-40%: The level takes a quick and dark turn as Miku glitches out and vanishes, and the background becomes dark, and the block design becomes extremely bright and flashy. After the player phases through the platform, they enter a quadruple-speed cube sequence with some slope and orb timings, a mini-wave sequence with a few gravity portals, and a brief pause in the flashing as the player goes through a mini-cube sequence that leads into a ship portal. The difficulty quickly ramps up here.
  • 40-45%: The player enters a quadruple-speed ship sequence with several gravity changes, as well as a UFO sequence following suit. The song's vocals start again, accompanied by bright cyan block design.
  • 45-49%: The level starts flashing an alternating pattern between pink and cyan. This section contains ship and wave gameplay, with alternating gravity changes, some of which can be quite tricky.
  • 49-59%: This section contains more UFO and wave gameplay that quickly switches between mini and normal size, as well as gravity portals.
  • 59-64%: The flashing effects pause for a few seconds during a short, half-speed mini-cube sequence with some yellow pads and blue orbs, before quickly resuming the flashing effects and rapidly switching game-modes throughout a tight tunnel. The game-modes rapidly switch between ball, ship, UFO, and spider.
  • 64-69%: The player then enters another quadruple-speed cube sequence with many size and gravity portals, as well as tricky slope and orb timings.
  • 69-74%: This sequence contains fast-paced ball gameplay, with more size and gravity portals, as well as many orbs and a few moving segments. The sequence ends with repeated hits on a ceiling covered in blue pads to avoid tiny spikes.
  • 74-78%: The player remains a ball but now goes at triple speed, with the gameplay syncing with the song to create an up-and-down pattern. The game-mode then switches to a UFO moving at quadruple speed, with the same pattern.
  • 78-78%: Another mini-cube sequence begins at half speed, with some pink pads and gravity portals, which then switches to a normal-sized cube at normal speed before transitioning into the next sequence. This sequence features code as decorations.
  • 78-87%: An extremely fast sequence that once again features the pink and cyan flashing decorations, starting with the UFO and eventually transitioning to wave and mini-wave gameplay. The section ends with many gravity portals, similar to a segment in Ashley Wave Trials, and finishes with an automatic wave-teleport portal transition.
  • 87-100%: The level ends with a quadruple-speed section featuring wave and ship sequences, along with size and gravity portals. The last two jumps are done as a mini-cube.

User coins

[edit | edit source]

MikuMikuMikuMiku contains three user coins.

  • The first coin is located in the mini-robot sequence at 12%. To get it, the player must time a jump with the bouncing platform to go on top of the platforms to collect the coin.
  • The second coin is located in the mini-cube sequence at 79%. To get it, the player must jump over an antigravity portal, land atop the mini-blocks, and precisely jump to reach it, then do the same to return to the normal path.
  • The third and final coin is located in the wave sequence at 91%. This coin is difficult to spot; to get it, the player must travel through a small gap between a spike and a gear in the mini-wave sequence.
