PXTTXRN SXXKXR (pronounced pattern seeker) is a 2.1 Easy Demon level by Viot, published on 28 June 2022. It is a vapourwave-themed memory level centred on a gimmick in which the player learns a click pattern and repeats it as the obstacles become progressively less visible. PXTTXRN SXXKXR received praise for this memory gimmick and its visual style. It was considered a suitable first Demon for players interested in memory levels.
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-9% (Introduction): PXTTXRN SXXKXR begins with a simple spike pattern as a cube. Text reads, 'FIND THE PATTERN IN THE MUSIC', hinting at the level's gimmick. At 5%, the spike pattern repeats, but this time the spikes are all invisible. It requires clicking to the music to pass these spikes. Just before the drop, there is a semi-auto section with only one blue orb click with text reading 'INITIATING: PXTTXRN SXXKXR'.
- 9-32% (Module 1): Module 1's gimmick is that each pattern slowly fades away until, by the fourth set, it is completely invisible, meaning the player must remember the click patterns. It begins with an easy ball sequence that repeats four times, slowly fading away until the fourth set, when it becomes completely invisible. After is a short cube interlude with easy orb clicks and no memory. The next pattern in module 1 is a spider sequence that repeats four times and can be slightly trickier than the ball sequence due to how the spider works. Just like the first pattern, it disappears by the fourth set. After that, another interlude as the cube, with more orb clicks. As the player hits a black orb into a gravity portal, the level freezes and transitions them into the next module.
- 32-54% (Module 2): Module 2's gimmick is cluttering the screen with fake objects, making it so that by the last set, it becomes nearly impossible to distinguish the real and fake objects, meaning the player must memorise the click patterns. Module 2 begins with a ship sequence where the player must fall down and then swoop up, which repeats three times. Each pillar features spikes, so the player must be cautious. Next is a UFO sequence that repeats four times. After that, there is more ship gameplay, but it is the inverse of the first pattern: the player must swoop up and then fall, and there are no spikes on the pillars. This pattern repeats four times as well. The last pattern is a wave sequence that repeats three times. After successfully passing module 2, there are some easy orb clicks as the level freezes again and transitions into module 3.
- 54-76% (Module 3): Module 3's gimmick is that the player is given decreasing amounts of time to react to the gameplay, until the last set, where it becomes blind. It begins with a robot sequence that primarily consists of orb clicks. The pattern to memorise is the arrangement of a pink orb, two green orbs, and a yellow orb, which appears four times. Following this is a ball sequence; the pattern to memorise is the three clicks and the pink orb, which appear three times. After is a cube interlude with orb clicks, and after hitting the blue orb, the level once again freezes, transitioning into module 4.
- 76-100% (Module 4 + Ending): Module 4's gimmick is obscuring the gameplay with decoration. Following a cube interlude, module 4 begins with a UFO sequence featuring gravity portals, which repeats three times as the screen progressively becomes more obscured by paint. Cube gameplay is in between each set. The trick with the UFO sequence is to jump into the UFO portal each time, then click in sync with the music. The final pattern is a wave sequence, which uses D-blocks to allow sliding and avoid spikes while ink obscures the gameplay. Robot gameplay is in between each set. This pattern continues for the rest of the level as the screen progressively becomes more covered until it is impossible to see the icon. After this, there is one final click with a red orb, after which the level ends.
User coins
[edit | edit source]PXTTXRN SXXKXR contains two user coins.
- The first coin is located at 53%. It is obtained by collecting every key in Module 2. Every key will be in the top-right corner, but only the first key of each module is visible before fading out with the rest of its corresponding pattern. A total of 14 keys are required (three in Patterns 2.1 and 2.4, and four in Patterns 2.2 and 2.3). Failure to collect all the keys results in the coin being replaced with a keyhole, accompanied by text reading 'PATTERN INSUFFICIENT'.
- When Update 2.2 was released, the alpha triggers used to hide the keys also hid the pickup animations, buffing the coin by removing a visual aid.
- The second coin is at the end of the level. To unlock it, the player must complete 'Ultimate Memory Mode', which is activated by a toggle orb at 8%. This mode makes most of the gameplay parts that normally fade completely invisible, meaning the player must rely purely on their memory to collect this coin.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]Trivia
[edit | edit source]- PXTTXRN SXXKXR was Weekly Demon #247.
- PXTTXRN SXXKXR was nominated for Best Modern Level in the Geometry Dash 2022 Awards. It went on to place first, defeating Rectangle by Knots by a 30-vote margin.
- It is the second-smallest known vote margin that a nominee has won by in the Geometry Dash Awards, only behind Alkali's win over Presta for Best Design Creator in the 2021 awards, where he won by 8 votes.
- Every single game-mode from Update 2.1 is featured in a pattern.
- There are 4 different modes in PXTTXRN SXXKXR:
- Normal mode
- Lite edition (when playing on Low Detail Mode)
- Ultimate Memory Mode (rewards the second coin)
- <Hidden File> (activates by hitting the toggle orb at 4%, turns the player invisible)
- Having hitboxes on will reveal invisible blocks above the first cube section and on the end screen, spelling 'HITBOXES ARE FOR THE WEAK' and 'WEAK' respectively.
- PXTTXRN SXXKXR was updated with an anti-cheat when hitboxes are enabled; multiple hitboxes appear whenever the level starts fading out. Hitboxes on the required path are deactivated through the use of toggle triggers, making it impossible to tell in advance which hitboxes are real and which ones are fake.
“anti cheat added. i will not allow ANY CHEESING in here. im not asking. you WILL learn my gameplay~ Viot
- The suspension of Koraii's Newgrounds account in September 2026 significantly buffed PXTTXRN SXXKXR for casual players, as it now requires a NoNG to learn.
