xo is a 2.1 Extreme Demon level by KrmaL, published on 23 December 2019.[1] It is a 1.0-style level created in a monochromatic colour scheme almost exclusively using basic blocks and the pulse trigger, along with sync-based gameplay.

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-10%: xo begins with the player as a mini-cube with four mini-spike jumps, with each jump adding another spike before launching the player via a jump pad. Around 3% lies a chokepoint where the player must precisely time a green dash orb.
  • 10-20%: This part of the level contains cube and ship-based gameplay, with straight-fly around 13-14%.
  • 20-33%: The level's first drop initially throws the player into mini-wave gameplay, with UFO gameplay around 23%, ball gameplay around 26%, cube gameplay around 28%, and ship gameplay around 30%, which has the player navigate a structure that resembles the level's name after going through a dual portal around the end.
  • 33-41%: The player is upsized and has to navigate blue orb timings, which pulse either an X or an O when clicked on.
  • 41-50%: The player is first thrown into the second verse of the song, with a tight wave section around 44-45%.
  • 50-56%: The player is thrown into ball gameplay, with a ship section around 54%.
  • 56-62%: The player turns back into a mini-cube and has to navigate a narrow corridor containing spike jumps and orb timings.
  • 62-80%: The second drop initially throws the player into normal-sized wave gameplay, with ball gameplay around 67%, UFO gameplay around 69%, robot gameplay around 71%, ship gameplay around 73%, and finally cube gameplay around 74% containing pink orb spam.
  • 80-91%: Ditto to 33-41% except the pulses are larger.
  • 91-100%: The level ends with the player navigating messy slope structures, with an auto gravity portal section at the end.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • xo was placed at #31 on the Demonlist on 15 January 2020, above Celestial Force and below ZAPHKIEL.
    • This addition pushed Violently X into the Legacy List.
  • The original version of xo's song by Irish singer EDEN has over 236 million streams on Spotify, making it his most popular song.[2]
    • The Aaron Musselwhite cover currently has over 3.2 million views on YouTube, and he has acknowledged the level's existence in both a pinned comment and a reply to KrmaL's comment on the video.[3]
  • xo was nominated for Best Extreme Demon in the Geometry Dash 2020 Awards. The nomination was controversial because the level had essentially no decoration; regardless, it placed second to Cold Sweat, garnering 7,278 votes (26.6% of the total).
  • On 29 April 2022, xo's song was removed from Newgrounds.[4] However, on 8 March 2024, the song became usable again.[5]
  • nasgubb has recreated xo in Minecraft.[6]
    • There is also a tutorial for how he made the video, which RobTop commented on.[7]
  • A secret way was found around 67% by UFokinWotM8.[8]
  • Despite xo barely having decoration, it has more objects than Krmal's other level Black Blizzard, which only has 29,089 objects.
  • There is an unused part above the level, presumably a ship part at 16%.
  • The placement of Coral Cave at #125 on 25 July 2023 pushed xo into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
