Cataclysm (commonly abbreviated as Cata) is a 1.9/2.0 Extreme Demon level created and hack-verified by Ggb0y, published on 2 January 2015. It is a hell-themed level with an exclusively red, orange, and black colour palette. It was later buffed in Update 2.0 and verified by Riot in an update on 15 January 2016. Upon its release, Cataclysm was featured and instantly became the hardest Demon level in Geometry Dash, historically tied with ICE Carbon Diablo X. The level received acclaim for its difficulty and design, and it was credited with popularizing the red-and-black hell theme in Extreme Demon levels.

Cataclysm is a 1.9/2.0 Extreme Demon, originally created and uploaded with a hacked verification by Ggb0y. The level was later updated and verified legitimately by Riot. Upon its release, it was featured and became one of the hardest levels in Geometry Dash, but is now deemed one of the easier extreme demons in the game. It is currently #97 on the Official Geometry Dash Demon List, above Violently X (#98) and below Awakening Horus (#96).
Cataclysm remains the second most-downloaded and liked Extreme Demon in the game and one of the most popular and influential levels of all time, with its creation widely considered a turning point in the game's history. It is the first instalment of the 'Apocalyptic Trilogy' of hell-themed Extreme Demon levels, preceding Bloodbath and aftermath.

History
History
Cataclysm possesses a very interesting story within the Geometry Dash community.
On 30 December 2014, Ggb0y uploaded a fourth preview on YouTube showcasing his upcoming Extreme Demon named Cataclysm, set to be the hardest level in the game up to that point. Some noted design cues reminiscent of the Rek3dge level Nitronic Freedom, as well as several cuts in the preview videos.

A popular creator, known as Ggb0y, uploaded a video on December 30, 2014, showing the fourth preview of his upcoming Extreme Demon named Cataclysm, set to be the hardest level in the game up until that point.
Ggb0y allegedly invested around 80,088 attempts to verify the level but was unable to beat it, resorting to hacking verification. Sometime later, players like ZorroZ Zet and Lyra Bandicoot claimed to have beaten it legitimately with video footage. However, they later confessed to hacking the level after suspicion arose from various game effects bugs visible in the replays, now known to be characteristic of speed-hacking.

Fast forward, and Ggb0y had invested over 80,000 attempts to try and verify the level, but still couldn't beat it. So, he used hacks to verify Cataclysm. Some time after, players like ZorroZ Zet and Lyra Bandicoot said that they beat it legitimately, but later confessed to hacking the level (clearly seen because of the facts that their waves, trail and jump rings were not pulsing in places they should have been).
Cataclysm was widely considered humanly impossible for a time. South Korean player Cyclic was thought to have completed it legitimately with his stream on 28 April 2015 and was initially considered the level's first victor or verifier. The completion propelled Cyclic's channel and popularity. However, he admitted to having completed the level and achieved all his significant milestones through hacking. Whether or not Cyclic's confession was the truth is debated, as there were no signs of illegitimacy in his completion of Cataclysm, unlike his two primary hacked completions, The Hell Zone and Sonic Wave, with more easily detectable cheats.

After all this, everyone thought it was impossible to complete Cataclysm without any hacks. But eventually, an extremely skilled Korean player named Cyclic was thought to have completed it without any hacks on Stream, and he was considered to be "the first survivor" of the Cataclysm (which subsequently blew up Cyclic's channel and his popularity), though later admitting he hacked the level (and later, confessed to hacking every major demon he ever beat).
After Cyclic's confession, Colombian player Giron became known and considered the first person to have legitimately beaten Cataclysm on 14 May 2015. He called the achievement his 'best work'. Soon after, two other players named Sandstorm and Riot beat Cataclysm within the same day: 20 May 2015. Riot also received a significant popularity boost after completing the level, and it became considered one of his signature achievements. Powerbomb became the fourth victor on 10 July, and Creepy Dash became the fifth on 25 July. Completions of Cataclysm began to snowball, and with the release of Bloodbath on 12 August 2015, Cataclysm was officially displaced from the position of the hardest verified Demon.

After Cyclic, a highly skilled player called Giron was the first to legitimately beat it, who still calls it his "best work" as of today. Soon after, a very skilled player called Sandstorm and an extremely skilled player called Riot did it at the same day. That made them the second and third players respectively to complete it (Riot's popularity also blew up after this). Then Powerbomb was the fourth, and Creepy Dash became the fifth. Soon, more and more people started to beat Cataclysm, and with the release of Bloodbath, Cataclysm was knocked down in the list and was no longer the legendary hardest demon it was once considered.
A year after its initial release, in Update 2.0, Ggb0y updated Cataclysm, with buffs to the ship sequences, the addition of an 'extra death', changes in gameplay throughout the level, and three user coins in the level. Riot legitimately verified the update on stream on 15 January 2016. This version became known as New Cataclysm and is considered somewhat harder than Old Cataclysm.

However a year later, Riot let Ggb0y update Cataclysm by buffing the ship sequences, adding an "extra death", as well as user coins in the level. Riot verified the newly buffed update of Cataclysm legitimately on stream. This version is now known as "New Cataclysm" and is considerably harder than "Old" Cataclysm.
Cataclysm went on to become one of the most influential and popular levels in Geometry Dash, revolutionising the difficulty precedent for what would become known as Extreme Demon levels after previously challenging yet illegitimately verified levels like Silent Club and the Hell Series. Cataclysm inspired other future levels such as Bloodbath, aftermath, and many more. As of Update 2.2, Cataclysm is now considered one of the easiest Extreme Demon levels in the game, often said to be the ideal beginner Extreme Demon alongside Acu.

Gameplay
Description
* 0-6%: The level starts off with a fairly easy half speed cube section, with a few fake jump orbs.
Cataclysm depicts a red-and-black 'hell' theme, with an emphasis on ship and wave gameplay.

* 6-20%: Next, the player enters a very hard double speed wave segment that contains tight spaces, many size change portals, and inconsistent and awkward timing. It then turns into an auto segment, briefly into a cube, where "CATACLYSM/GGBOY" appear briefly on screen.
*0-6%: A half-speed cube sequence opens the level at a forgiving pace, introducing fake orbs and simple timings to ease in with the level.
* 20-26%: After that is a hard triple speed ship sequence with gravity portals and many invisible size portals that require very light tapping and good transition controlling to avoid death. The ship was one of the few parts completely overhauled after the 2.0 update.
*6-15%: A double-speed wave sequence follows, featuring tight spaces, multiple size-change portals, and irregular timings.
* 26-30%: It changes back into a mini wave at half speed, but is easier than the first wave as it is not double speed.
*15-19%: An auto sequence briefly transitions into a cube sequence with a single orb, with 'Cataclysm' and 'ggb0y' flashing on-screen.
* 30-38: The player then changes into a double speed ball that requires very good timing and hitter clicks, then goes half speed and goes through very tight spaces, with a few speed changes to try and throw the player off.
*19-25%: A triple-speed ship sequence with numerous invisible size portals and gravity portals. Very light inputs and careful transition control are required throughout.
* 38-43%: The player then enters a double speed UFO segment with many jump rings, gravity portals and tight spaces with fairly awkward timing.
*25-27%: A mini-wave at half-speed, followed by a brief normal-size transition, with partial vision obstruction from the background.
* 43-47%: This UFO then transitions to a half speed ship sequence that requires insanely straight flying, and also has jump rings and gravity portals; missing one jump ring results in a crash.
*27-36%: A double-speed ball sequence demanding precise timing and spamming, settling into a half-speed segment with tight spaces and occasional speed changes.
* 47-56%: The ship then transitions into a double speed cube that needs good timing, then turns into a half speed mini cube that mostly requires a little bit of mashing.
*36-40%: A double-speed UFO sequence packed with orbs, gravity portals, and tight spaces with awkward timings.
* 56-68%: Afterwards, the player heads into the halfway section of Cataclysm, where the player becomes a ball that needs a little bit of hitter clicking and good timing. Gameplay-wise this is the easiest part of Cataclysm, however, the level becomes dark with the obstacles flashing intermittently and it becomes hard to see where the player is going, and switches to the cube and ship a few times before going back to a ball, which can throw off players not used to the section.
*40-43%: A normal-speed ship sequence requiring precise straight-flying, with a mini and gravity portal mid-sequence, concluding with orb hits inside gravity portals.
* 68-81%: The level then goes into Cataclysm's last two hard sections, which are a very difficult ship and a tight half speed wave. The half speed ship is very difficult, having extremely tight spaces, size changes. and a short dual section halfway through the ship. The second user coin is hidden here.
*43-52%: The ship transitions into a triple-speed cube sequence demanding precise timing, followed by a half-speed mini-cube segment that primarily rewards spamming.
* 81-91%: Afterwards, the player goes into the last part of the level, which is a tight spaced half speed wave segment. Multiple players are known for crashing here, either out of nervousness and anxiety, or just screwing it up.
*52-63%: A dark sequence with intermittent flashing obstacles. Opens with a ball requiring spamming and precise timing, cycling through a mini-UFO, ball, mini-ship, and brief mini-cube jump before a short ball sequence closes it out.
* 91-94%: After this moderately difficult wave segment, the player enters a short robot section containing the third and final user coin.
*63-75%: A difficult mirrored half-speed ship sequence with precise straight-flying and tight mini-ship navigation midway. The ship normalizes shortly before entering a dual sequence with tighter spaces and straight-flying, ending on a final straight-fly.
* 94-100%: Then, the level ends with one final ship sequence, with the well known area that says "GBOY", the creator's name, and "U NEED TO REST", finishing with "GG" and a two block space to fly through but requires to keep straight from flying as if there were spikes before ending. After that, a hall of fame of those who have finished the level legitimately can be seen and a message from Ggb0y admitting to hacking it and an apology, and lastly thanking Riot for verifying the level and adding coins, from which the level ends.
*75-84%: A tight, yet rather easy half-speed wave sequence, demanding nerve control and precision.
*84-87%: A short robot sequence offering brief respite, with simple orb jumps before the final stretch.
*87-90%: The final ship sequence passes through the iconic 'GBOY' area, with messages reading 'U NEED TO REST...' and 'GG' lining the walls, closing on one last straight-fly.
*90-100%: A hall of fame displays the players who conquered Cataclysm before the update, alongside Ggb0y's admission to hacking, an apology, and gratitude to Riot. This sequence is the level's quiet and honest farewell.

User Coins
User coins
This level has 3 user coins. The first and last ones require some timing to obtain, but the second one is fairly easy to get with good memory and straight fly.
*The first coin is at 3% and is collected as the cube. To collect it, hit the blue orb late to launch into a sawblade that appears deadly, but instead redirects to the coin before teleporting back on course.
* The first coin is fairly easy to get with relatively simple timing. You must hit a blue orb, and you will get a coin. A teleportation portal will send you back on course.
*The second coin is at 70% and is collected as the dual-ship, and is also the easiest of the three to collect. To collect it, fly between the spiked area in the first sequence of the dual ship, then exit through the narrow space and proceed with the level. This route is considered easier than the regular path.
* The second coin is the easiest of the coins. At the first segment in the dual ship, fly in between the spiked area to get the coin. You will exit the little space and continue the level. This route is agreed to be easier than the route that prevents the coin collection.
*The third and final coin is at 85% and is collected as the robot. To collect it, hit the last blue orb and pass through the gravity portal. While inside, hit an invisible yellow orb to reach the coin. Alternatively, hit the blue orb late to allow the robot to brush past the coin.
* The third coin towards the ending. You must hit the last blue jump and you go through the gravity portal. While in it, tap because there is an invisible orb that will take you up to the last coin.

Trivia
First 10 victors
* Ggb0y had to hack to verify this map. However, since the harder update of Cataclysm, Riot has legitimately verified the level.
{| class="wikitable"
* It took Ggb0y 80088 attempts to verify the level, even when he used hacks. These attempts were likely faked.
!Victor #
* Other players like Lyra Bandicoot also had to hack to complete the map. This sparked a lot of debate which resulted in many users uploading videos on how to spot hackers of the game.
!Player
* Cataclysm was the hardest map ever created but, after creation of Bloodbath and Sonic Wave, those both became the hardest.
!Date Completed
* The level is part of an official trilogy, consisting of (in order): Cataclysm, Bloodbath, and Aftermath.
!Total Attempts
* Riot is the first player confirmed to have beaten Cataclysm more than once, completing all three runs in livestreams, and the last one being a reverification of Cataclysm for Ggb0y to update coins into the level.
!Furthest Fail
* Cyclic had admitted to hacking this level, so GironDavid was the first. Sandstorm & Riot both completed the level a week after GironDavid, making Sandstorm and Riot the second and third players respectively to beat Cataclysm. Powerbomb soon followed as the fourth, and Creepy Dash as the fifth.
!Video
* Players, who beat the level before it got updated have now been added to the "hall of fame" at the end of the level. This list comprises the following players: Cyclic, GironDavid, Sandstorm, Riot, Powerbomb, Creepy Dash, MaxiS9, MrKebab, Smokes, SoulsTRK, Danilkaz, Elite, R3YGA, and Mabby01.
|-
* Sandstorm is the second player to beat the updated version of Cataclysm, getting all three coins in the process. Not too long after, Kins0 and Quasar followed Sandstorm and became the respective third and fourth players to beat the new version of Cataclysm. Then, Brandon Larkin beat the updated version with 2 coins, making him the fifth person to beat the updated Cataclysm. Finally, as of April 21, 2016, hotball1 completed the level on stream, making him the 6th, most recent and youngest player (11 years old) to complete the updated level.
|Potential verifier
* Ggb0y claims he made this level to replace Ice Carbon Diablo X. The level did end up becoming harder than it, but was eventually dethroned upon the publishing and rating of Bloodbath.
|Cyclic
* The "GG" obstacle that appears at the ending has been imitated in many other difficult demon levels, and sometimes in impossible levels.
|28 April 2015
* Despite the fact that a player, Garomo, has appeared to have legitimately beaten Cataclysm before Mabby01, his legitimacy was not known before the Cataclysm coin update. Therefore, he is currently not on the "Hall of Fame" in the level.
|15,000+
* Renato 16 is the only person to have beaten Cataclysm on phone with a YouTube video. He beat the old version before the update as it appears to be the old version and gives stars, but it is unknown on which date he beat it because he uploaded the video after the update came out.
|86%
** It is possible he had the old version stored on his phone when he beat it.
|YouTube
* TrusTa has created a level which the player have to beat the old version of Cataclysm two times which is called "Multi Clysm". TrusTa has also beaten this level almost 30 times. He says that he is attempting to beat the level 100 times.
|-
* The record for the lowest number of attempts to beat Cataclysm is 546, by Temporum.
|-
**Unfortunately, the video that served as a proof cannot be watched anymore, as he put the video to private.
|Deemed verifier
* There is a redecorated and redone version of Cataclysm made by LazerBlitz called Quest for Perfection. It uses a blue and black color scheme, and replaces the last wave of Cataclysm with a difficult mixed dual. Most other sections of the level are merged, however.
|Giron
* Cataclysm is currently the most defeated demon on the Demon List, with more than 200 victors.
|14 May 2015
* Bloodbath and Aftermath are directly inspired by this level, being direct extensions of the original level. Hundreds of other levels are thought to be inspired by this demon as well.
|31,497
** Ggb0y's level Infernal Abyss was supposedly an intended sequel to Cataclysm, however that idea was dropped once Bloodbath was released, being the official sequel to Cataclysm, and when Manix648 and Bianox took over designing it.
|?
* Sunix himself stated that he believes Cataclysm is more like Hard Demon difficulty to him.

* R3YGA and YGYoshi crashed at the 91% bug.
*The old version of Cataclysm is regarded as the 16th instance of the hardest rated level in the game's history.
* Riot crashed accidentally after the last wave segment.
*Cataclysm was ranked #9 in Geometry Dash Today's list of 'The Top 100 Greatest Geometry Dash Levels Of All Time'.
* Elite crashed at 89%.
*There is a level called AfterCataBath, initially created by Zimnyte, combining Cataclysm, Bloodbath and aftermath into a single level. A remake of AfterCataBath, titled Apocalyptic Trilogy, is its super-buffed and redecorated version. Cataclysm directly inspired Bloodbath and aftermath, which serve as direct extensions to it, with hundreds of other levels inspired by it.

**Cataclysm directly inspired Bloodbath and aftermath; these two levels serve as direct extensions to Cataclysm, and hundreds of other levels are also inspired by it.
* SoulsTRK crashed at 74% twice.
*The ship sequence from 19% to 25% was one of the few parts completely overhauled after Update 2.0, originally featuring mirror portals without size portals.
* Cyclic crashed at 86%(although this may be hacked)
*Several players, like the popular Lyra Bandicoot, used hacks to complete Cataclysm. A wave of videos showing hackers in the game was attributed to the numerous hacked videos of Cataclysm.
*Riot is the first player confirmed to have beaten Cataclysm more than once, completing all three runs in live streams, with the last being a re-verification of Cataclysm for Ggb0y to update coins into the level.
*Cyclic had admitted to allegedly hacking Cataclysm, which has led many to consider Giron as the first player to beat it legitimately. However, whether or not Cyclic's confession was truthful is still debated, as there were no signs of illegitimacy in his completion of Cataclysm. Sandstorm and Riot completed the level a week after Giron, making them the second and third players to beat Cataclysm. Powerbomb soon followed as the fourth, and Creepy Dash as the fifth.

**SrGuillester also beat the updated version of Cataclysm on 60Hz a year later.
**The up arrow key is commonly used by skilled players on the Demonlist nowadays.
*There is a redecorated and redone version of Old Cataclysm made by LazerBlitz called Quest For Perfection, using a blue-and-black colour scheme and replacing the last wave of Cataclysm with a difficult mixed dual. *Cataclysm is one of the most defeated Extreme Demons, as well as one of the most defeated Demons that used to be on the Demonlist.
*Ggb0y's level Infernal Abyss is the official sequel to Cataclysm. Although the idea for the level was dropped when Bloodbath, the spiritual sequel to Cataclysm, was released, Manix648 and Bianox later finished the decoration. The level was hack-verified by YGYoshI, and BlassCFB was the first person to complete it legitimately.
*There is a buffed remake of Cataclysm called Armageddon.
*On 1 April 2021, RobTop deleted all the comments of Cataclysm.
*Cataclysm is the level with the second-highest number of completions on the All Rated Extreme Demons List (AREDL), standing at over 8,700 victors.

Cataclysm remains the second most-downloaded and liked Extreme Demon in the game[1] and one of the most popular and influential levels of all time, with its creation widely considered a turning point in the game's history.[2][3] It is the first instalment of the 'Apocalyptic Trilogy' of hell-themed Extreme Demon levels, preceding Bloodbath and aftermath.

History

[edit | edit source]

On 30 December 2014, Ggb0y uploaded a fourth preview on YouTube showcasing his upcoming Extreme Demon named Cataclysm, set to be the hardest level in the game up to that point.[4] Some noted design cues reminiscent of the Rek3dge level Nitronic Freedom, as well as several cuts in the preview videos.

Cataclysm was widely considered humanly impossible for a time. South Korean player Cyclic was thought to have completed it legitimately with his stream on 28 April 2015 and was initially considered the level's first victor or verifier. The completion propelled Cyclic's channel and popularity.[5] However, he admitted to having completed the level and achieved all his significant milestones through hacking. Whether or not Cyclic's confession was the truth is debated, as there were no signs of illegitimacy in his completion of Cataclysm, unlike his two primary hacked completions, The Hell Zone and Sonic Wave, with more easily detectable cheats.

After Cyclic's confession, Colombian player Giron became known and considered the first person to have legitimately beaten Cataclysm on 14 May 2015. He called the achievement his 'best work'.[6] Soon after, two other players named Sandstorm[7] and Riot[8] beat Cataclysm within the same day: 20 May 2015. Riot also received a significant popularity boost after completing the level, and it became considered one of his signature achievements. Powerbomb became the fourth victor on 10 July,[9] and Creepy Dash became the fifth on 25 July.[10] Completions of Cataclysm began to snowball, and with the release of Bloodbath on 12 August 2015, Cataclysm was officially displaced from the position of the hardest verified Demon.

A year after its initial release, in Update 2.0, Ggb0y updated Cataclysm, with buffs to the ship sequences, the addition of an 'extra death', changes in gameplay throughout the level, and three user coins in the level. Riot legitimately verified the update on stream on 15 January 2016.[11] This version became known as New Cataclysm and is considered somewhat harder than Old Cataclysm.

Cataclysm went on to become one of the most influential and popular levels in Geometry Dash, revolutionising the difficulty precedent for what would become known as Extreme Demon levels after previously challenging yet illegitimately verified levels like Silent Club and the Hell Series. Cataclysm inspired other future levels such as Bloodbath, aftermath, and many more.[12] As of Update 2.2, Cataclysm is now considered one of the easiest Extreme Demon levels in the game, often said to be the ideal beginner Extreme Demon alongside Acu.[13]

Description

[edit | edit source]

Cataclysm depicts a red-and-black 'hell' theme, with an emphasis on ship and wave gameplay.

  • 0-6%: A half-speed cube sequence opens the level at a forgiving pace, introducing fake orbs and simple timings to ease in with the level.
  • 6-15%: A double-speed wave sequence follows, featuring tight spaces, multiple size-change portals, and irregular timings.
  • 15-19%: An auto sequence briefly transitions into a cube sequence with a single orb, with 'Cataclysm' and 'ggb0y' flashing on-screen.
  • 19-25%: A triple-speed ship sequence with numerous invisible size portals and gravity portals. Very light inputs and careful transition control are required throughout.
  • 25-27%: A mini-wave at half-speed, followed by a brief normal-size transition, with partial vision obstruction from the background.
  • 27-36%: A double-speed ball sequence demanding precise timing and spamming, settling into a half-speed segment with tight spaces and occasional speed changes.
  • 36-40%: A double-speed UFO sequence packed with orbs, gravity portals, and tight spaces with awkward timings.
  • 40-43%: A normal-speed ship sequence requiring precise straight-flying, with a mini and gravity portal mid-sequence, concluding with orb hits inside gravity portals.
  • 43-52%: The ship transitions into a triple-speed cube sequence demanding precise timing, followed by a half-speed mini-cube segment that primarily rewards spamming.
  • 52-63%: A dark sequence with intermittent flashing obstacles. Opens with a ball requiring spamming and precise timing, cycling through a mini-UFO, ball, mini-ship, and brief mini-cube jump before a short ball sequence closes it out.
  • 63-75%: A difficult mirrored half-speed ship sequence with precise straight-flying and tight mini-ship navigation midway. The ship normalizes shortly before entering a dual sequence with tighter spaces and straight-flying, ending on a final straight-fly.
  • 75-84%: A tight, yet rather easy half-speed wave sequence, demanding nerve control and precision.
  • 84-87%: A short robot sequence offering brief respite, with simple orb jumps before the final stretch.
  • 87-90%: The final ship sequence passes through the iconic 'GBOY' area, with messages reading 'U NEED TO REST...' and 'GG' lining the walls, closing on one last straight-fly.
  • 90-100%: A hall of fame displays the players who conquered Cataclysm before the update, alongside Ggb0y's admission to hacking, an apology, and gratitude to Riot. This sequence is the level's quiet and honest farewell.

User coins

[edit | edit source]
  • The first coin is at 3% and is collected as the cube. To collect it, hit the blue orb late to launch into a sawblade that appears deadly, but instead redirects to the coin before teleporting back on course.
  • The second coin is at 70% and is collected as the dual-ship, and is also the easiest of the three to collect. To collect it, fly between the spiked area in the first sequence of the dual ship, then exit through the narrow space and proceed with the level. This route is considered easier than the regular path.
  • The third and final coin is at 85% and is collected as the robot. To collect it, hit the last blue orb and pass through the gravity portal. While inside, hit an invisible yellow orb to reach the coin. Alternatively, hit the blue orb late to allow the robot to brush past the coin.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Upon the creation of the modern Demonlist on Pointercrate on 4 January 2017, Cataclysm was placed at #22, above ICE Carbon Diablo X and below Heartbeat.
  • The old version of Cataclysm is regarded as the 16th instance of the hardest rated level in the game's history.
  • Cataclysm was ranked #9 in Geometry Dash Today's list of 'The Top 100 Greatest Geometry Dash Levels Of All Time'.[15]
  • There is a level called AfterCataBath, initially created by Zimnyte, combining Cataclysm, Bloodbath and aftermath into a single level. A remake of AfterCataBath, titled Apocalyptic Trilogy, is its super-buffed and redecorated version. Cataclysm directly inspired Bloodbath and aftermath, which serve as direct extensions to it, with hundreds of other levels inspired by it.
    • Cataclysm directly inspired Bloodbath and aftermath; these two levels serve as direct extensions to Cataclysm, and hundreds of other levels are also inspired by it.
  • The ship sequence from 19% to 25% was one of the few parts completely overhauled after Update 2.0, originally featuring mirror portals without size portals.
  • Several players, like the popular Lyra Bandicoot, used hacks to complete Cataclysm. A wave of videos showing hackers in the game was attributed to the numerous hacked videos of Cataclysm.
  • Riot is the first player confirmed to have beaten Cataclysm more than once, completing all three runs in live streams, with the last being a re-verification of Cataclysm for Ggb0y to update coins into the level.
  • Cyclic had admitted to allegedly hacking Cataclysm, which has led many to consider Giron as the first player to beat it legitimately.
  • The hall of fame at the end of Cataclysm includes the players who beat it before the update. This list comprises the following players: Cyclic, Giron David, Sandstorm, Riot, Powerbomb, Creepy Dash, MaxiS9, MrKebab, Smokes, SoulsTRK, Danilkaz, Elite, R3YGA, and Mabby01.
  • Sandstorm is the second player to beat the updated version of Cataclysm, getting all three coins in the process, followed by Kins0, Quasar, Brandon Larkin, and Surv.
  • TrusTa created a level consisting of Old Cataclysm twice back-to-back, called 'Multi Clysm'. TrusTa has also beaten Cataclysm almost 30 times.
  • SrGuillester was the first to beat the old version of Cataclysm on 60Hz and the up arrow key on 22 February 2016.[16]
    • SrGuillester also beat the updated version of Cataclysm on 60Hz a year later.[17]
    • The up arrow key is commonly used by skilled players on the Demonlist nowadays.
  • There is a redecorated and redone version of Old Cataclysm made by LazerBlitz called Quest For Perfection, using a blue-and-black colour scheme and replacing the last wave of Cataclysm with a difficult mixed dual. Most other parts of the level are merged. Quest For Perfection is considered easier than Cataclysm.
  • Cataclysm is one of the most defeated Extreme Demons, as well as one of the most defeated Demons that used to be on the Demonlist.
  • Ggb0y's level Infernal Abyss is the official sequel to Cataclysm. Although the idea for the level was dropped when Bloodbath, the spiritual sequel to Cataclysm, was released, Manix648 and Bianox later finished the decoration. The level was hack-verified by YGYoshI, and BlassCFB was the first person to complete it legitimately.
  • There is a buffed remake of Cataclysm called Armageddon.
  • On 1 April 2021, RobTop deleted all the comments of Cataclysm.
  • Cataclysm is the level with the second-highest number of completions on the All Rated Extreme Demons List (AREDL), standing at over 8,700 victors.
  • The placements of super probably level, Titan Complex, and Annihilation Nation on 1 February 2019 pushed Cataclysm into the Legacy List of the Demonlist.
    • In June 2019, the Demonlist expanded from 100 to 150 spots, pushing Cataclysm back into the Extended List.
      • However, the placement of Zettabyte on 2 September 2019 pushed Cataclysm back into the Legacy List.
