Killbot
Killbot is a 2.1 Extreme Demon level by Lithifusion and verified and published by BoldStep on 3 November 2017. The level is heavily memory-based, containing many fake objects and orbs with invisible spikes. The level is digital-themed and inspired by an old 1.9 level Chaotic Machine. It uses a red colour palette for the 'virus' motif and green for the 'normal' motif. It remained unrated for a time following its release, but it was finally rated after over a month.
History
Lithifusion uploaded the first preview of Killbot on 15 June 2017. In the video description, he said he planned for the level to have many tricks and deceptions and to contain many disturbing messages. On 20 July 2017, Lithifusion uploaded a montage that showcased most of the level's decoration. At the time, DollarC was accepting Extreme Demon levels to his channel and featuring the best ones. Lithifusion sent Killbot to DollarC, who was so amazed that he uploaded the video on his channel. Many considered the level 'God Eater-tier', a rival for the title of best level ever. On 6 September 2017, it was decided that the song, not available for download on Newgrounds, would be replaced by Sweet Dreams by NIGHTkilla.
After the final preview, ChilliusVGM was chosen to verify Killbot. After Chillius was kicked due to inactivity on the level, he was replaced by Atomic. Atomic dropped the level due to the drama between Lithifusion and Chillius. Sylz was chosen next to verify Killbot around 1 August 2017, and he achieved 23% on 10 August 2017.[1] He soon dropped the level because the level was just out of his skill range. On 6 September 2017, Lithifusion chose Antares as the new verifier, who super-buffed the level and achieved 45% on 14 September 2017. However, he quit because school was starting up again. Afterwards, BoldStep took over the verification and achieved 53% on 6 October 2017. In the video description, he stated that he removed most of Antares' buffs because they made the level ridiculously inconsistent, and Lithifusion became upset with Antares.[2] Furthermore, he added an LDM to reduce the lag he was experiencing.
Twenty days later, on 26 October 2017, BoldStep achieved a devastating 95% on Killbot. He explained in the video description that he was not uploading videos because he was moving and had internet problems.[3] He finally verified this level on 3 November 2017.
On 12 September 2018, Zylenox verified the super-buffed version of Killbot that Antares was once set to verify. It took him a staggering 38,358 attempts to beat all versions of Killbot.[4] Since Zylenox plays on a controller, and this level was harder than WOW (which was considered around #8 at that time), this was the hardest level beaten with a controller for nearly 21 months until Brandon Larkin beat kowareta on 2 June 2020.[5] However, the Antares version of Killbot is still the hardest memory level beaten on a controller.
Controversy
- Lithifusion accuses several people of harassment after screenshots were leaked showing him admitting to bestiality/zoophilia. At the same time, his level was criticised for his accusations.
Level plot
Killbot and Requiem form a rather depressing story plot.
Killbot is a computer virus that installs itself on the user's PC or mobile device and sends the user disturbing images without rest, causing the user to go insane and hurt themselves in many different ways, while some commit suicide altogether.
The Killbot virus tries to attack the player with words like 'CRY' and 'Killbot'. The player downloads an antivirus that eventually kills the Killbot virus.
After the infestation of Killbot on the PC, the player manages to find a way to get rid of Killbot, no matter how hopeless it all looks. After removing the virus, the hero escapes into the cave.
So begins the story of Requiem - the player everywhere comes across the shadows and ghosts of all virus victims.
Just as the passage of Killbot personifies what is happening in the infected computer, the cave in Requiem embodies what is already happening in the user's head after the program's removal.
Being in a difficult mental state, the hero tries to find a way out of the cave. He needs to get rid of this trauma and escape from all illusions, to realise that they are just pathetic copies of what they personify, and all this is not real.
Shadows and ghosts haunt the user and frighten him so that he goes away from the memories of the virus. They try to help him so that he does not repeat their mistakes. Finally, the player runs away from them.
In addition, the hero needs to realise that the battle with the virus and self-defence will not help eliminate Killbot and his memories. For this, you only need to accept his presence, calm down, and run away from all the shadows and souls of the dead. After this, the hero finds the exit and escapes Killbot once and for all.
Thus, in Killbot, the player removes the virus, and in Requiem, the player gets rid of the memories of it.
Real story
For Lithifusion, the virus personifies the problem of our time—the tendency of people to react and be offended by something on the Internet, personally accepting all criticism and negative reviews.
The author himself had to deal with all this—for a long time, he paid attention to everything that was directed at him, because of which he lived with constant malice until he realised that all this was not real, as it happens in the virtual world on a computer screen. This part of the story corresponds to the removal of the virus.
At the end of the video, he advised everyone not to be selfish and not to pay attention to all the negative reviews, hatred, and the like on the Internet, focusing more on real life and accepting it as it is. (Remember, you choose to be offended; it does not just happen; you can choose to ignore the selfishness and hatred or be offended by it; just remember, Love always dominates Hatred, no matter what.)
Description
The level starts with a mini-ball segment with sudden speed changes between half and triple-speed and difficult timings. Then, it changes to a mini-spider segment with the same styled gameplay as the ball part. During these two segments, the Killbot is installed in the background. Then, it turns into an auto-cube section representing the downloading of the Killbot. After that, the music beat drops, and the player enters a triple-speed cube section, similar to a part in Fake A Doom. After that, a three-second auto segment comes next.
After that, a wave-mini-UFO dual comes next, which is very confusing due to the abrupt and frequent red flashes. Next, the player enters a ball-cube dual using the same confusing effects as the previous dual. Then, the player enters a wave-ball dual that, again, uses the same confusing effects as the last two segments. Afterwards, the player enters a wave-cube dual that lasts four to five seconds and turns into a three to four-second auto segment. After that, the player enters a robot-cube dual involving straight-up memory to pass due to its simple gameplay and confusing effects. After that, the player changes into a ball-spider dual that utilises gameplay elements and effects similar to those of the last dual.
After that, the player enters a tricky ship segment that involves very tight spaces, a lot of orbs blocking the way, and an infrequent straight-fly to make it more difficult. After that, the player enters a mini UFO section that uses a lot of flashes, tight, crooked corridors, and a reverse gravity portal as a choke point. The entire UFO section has good sync with the music, so it is possible to do this with little practice if one is attentive enough. Then, the level ends with a cube section with one tiny invisible spike at the end to ambush. Finally, the word Killbot, the credits, the text 'thanks' and a list of dedications appear.
