Saul Goodman is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted by Renn241, verified by bloom on 3 May 2023.[1] The level is the fourth instalment of the Breaking Bad tetralogy, preceded by walter white. Its decoration is filled with different memes. The level's gameplay has been received mostly positively among players. The level also features user coins, which are rare for levels of such difficulty.

The level is named after Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman, the main protagonist of the television series Better Call Saul. The level's gameplay contains fast timings, straight-flying segments, and tight wave sections.

History

[edit | edit source]

The first mention of Saul Goodman dates back to 29 August, when Renn241 uploaded the first preview of his new project, the final level in the Breaking Bad trilogy, Saul Goodman, on his YouTube channel.[2] He informed that the level was originally aimed to be the potential new Top 1, but now it would be nerfed to Silent clubstep difficulty. On 8 October, he uploaded the second Saul Goodman preview to his channel.[3] On 23 October, Renn241 showcased the fully completed level, stating that the level is aimed to place within the Top 10 of the Demonlist, and that he chose iIiLaseriIi as its verifier.[4]

However, iIiLaseriIi finally did not verify the level, as bloom became the next and final verifier, with 38,951 attempts and two fails at 92%.[1] In the video's description, she briefly explained how it came to be that she ended up as a verifier: 'i had wanted to verify this for so, so long but since it already had a verifier, i never asked. this was until one day when i was in a call with renn and i went "hey, whats happening with saul goodman?" one thing lead to another and now we're here.'

Description

[edit | edit source]
  • 0-15%: Saul Goodman begins with its first section featuring a challenging cube sequence, followed by a short robot and ball sequence. The game-mode then switches back to the cube, with music often timed to clicks. The gameplay now blends cube and ship with dash orbs. This section ends with several jumps over triple spikes and the alternating 'Better Call Saul' sign.
  • 15-35%: The design of the level changes significantly, with the drop starting at maximum, followed by two UFO clicks on orbs. The player briefly turns into a wave, then flies between obstacles, must click an orb, and the game-mode changes. A varied and very fast-paced sequence of gameplay follows.
  • 35-54%: Grey becomes the dominant colour in this part of the level, with different shades of this colour making it really beautiful. The player is now a ship, and must perform complex straight-fly with additional difficulties. The game-modes change very quickly again, but the speed of the level has calmed down a bit. The main difficulty in this section is precise timing amid rapidly changing patterns, sometimes requiring the player to click in time with the music. At the same time, effects like bright flashes and lasers add to the gameplay's vibe. This section ends with a short mini-ship straight-fly.
  • 54-73%: The second half of the drop is divided into four equal-length segments: The first is a cube which has to memorise and jump on the correct orbs. The second is a ship with tricky straight-fly, which also has to watch out for black orbs, making this section even more difficult. In the fourth segment, the player has to navigate the very challenging wave, similar to the difficulty of Sakupen Circles. This section ends with a cube part featuring several triple-spike jumps.
  • 73-92%: The final section of the level features weird, humorous decorations with fast gameplay that requires precision, and the visual synchronisation with the music becomes more noticeable. It also features a mix of straight-fly and difficult wave sequences. The final part is the wave game-mode, which gradually increases in speed, after which the level ends.
  • 92-100%: This part is an almost empty section where the player can collect two user coins. At the very end, a drawing of Saul Goodman's face will appear.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Saul Goodman was placed at #12 on the Demonlist on 11 June 2023, above arcturus and below poocubed.
    • This addition pushed Tartarus out of the Top 20, Pagoda into the Extended List and Erebus into the Legacy List, ending its six-year reign on the Demonlist.
  • Saul Goodman has many Easter eggs and memes outside of gameplay:
    • At the beginning, if the players look in the editor, they can find two 'fighting' monsters, and above them, a red inscription saying 'DIE' can be found.
    • At 27%, the caption at the top of the level reads 'Geometry Dash x Better Call Saul'. The caption is a reference to the Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul, which featured Saul Goodman.

    • Above where the second user coin is located, the caption that says 'Better ring zink' can be seen, which is a reference to the aforementioned series prequel. It also features a gameplay piece from Silent clubstep: the cube-and-ball duals.
  • The other levels in the Breaking Bad tetralogy consist of Gustavo Fring, Jesse Pinkman and walter white.
  • The placement of Society on 24 June 2026 pushed Saul Goodman out of the Top 50 of the Demonlist.
