Silent clubstep
Silent clubstep (commonly abbreviated as SC) is a 1.8-2.1 former impossible Extreme Demon level by Sailent. It was legitimately verified by paqoe on a nerfed later version of the level. It is a silent-level remake of the main level Clubstep and one of the most famous levels in Geometry Dash history due to the old version being previously deemed humanly impossible by many players.
The original version was widely considered impossible for many reasons. The inconsistency of the pre-drop prevented players from making significant progress due to its near-frame-perfect timings and the fixed-hitbox straight-flying section. The mini-cube section following the dual has eight near-frame-perfect timings with awkward speed changes throughout. These eight jumps became known as the '8 Jumps of Hell' and inspired popular challenge levels, such as Final Destination and FINAL FANTASY.
In 2020, Silent clubstep was updated, nerfing many frame-perfect timings that were only possible at high FPS, bug-fixing gameplay segments that broke due to Update 2.1's physics, and implementing overall gameplay nerfs, such as the additional pink orb at 51%. This version was verified and published by paqoe on 17 July 2022, after over 138,000 attempts,[1] initially placing at #4 on the Demonlist before being shifted to #3 nearly a year after its verification, above Slaughterhouse; later changes to the Demonlist make Silent clubstep retrospectively the hardest level until Tidal Wave. Silent clubstep was panned by players for its gameplay and dated decoration, yet it received some praise for its sense of accomplishment.[2][3][4] A remake of the unnerfed level, Eternal Silence, was hosted by RealVet in Update 2.1 and is set for an open verification.
2.1 fix and update
[edit | edit source]icedcave, a skilled Canadian player who had made significant runs on unnerfed Silent clubstep, came into contact with Sailent over Discord. There, they discussed the problems Silent clubstep had, such as orb masking issues, various skips and physics problems due to Update 2.0 physics changes, mainly affecting vertical ship movement. Sailent agreed to update the level to fix these problems and added small nerfs to make it no longer impossible.
The nerfs included changing timings to be possible on 60FPS and nerfing other possible timings. They also added visibility to the 'lights-out' parts and nerfed the first ship segment to allow players to pass it more consistently.
The level received another update a few months after the initial Update 2.1. However, this new update was relatively minor, only changing decorations and using toggle triggers to mimic orb masking in the ball, which initially used this technique, as proper orb masking no longer works due to game changes.
Official unnerfed version
[edit | edit source]On 9 November 2022, the player previously mentioned, icedcave, and Sailent released an official unnerfed version of Silent clubstep.[5] This intended unnerfed version has been uploaded to icedcave's account, and the plan is that once it is beaten, it will replace the current rated version.
Regarding the unnerfed version, it includes patching all skips, fixing sections that were made impossible by future updates, and reworking hitboxes to work like in Update 1.9.
Description
[edit | edit source]- 0-4%: Silent clubstep begins with a cube section containing two frame-perfect timings, a blind jump over a quadruple-spike and a visible jump over a spike pyramid, followed by a three-block wide blue orb spam.
- 4-6%: The player enters a mirror portal into a cube dual in the dark with a frame-perfect corner jump and triple-spike.
- 6-10%: The infamous extremely tight ship segment with straight-flying, a slight bend upwards, then mirror, yellow gravity and half-speed portals midway into more straight-flying with slightly jutted spikes. This segment is considered the main obstacle in beating the level due to its inconsistency.
- 10-25%: The player returns to normal speed, then down a ledge from the ship segment is a cube part with four frame-perfect jumps, a two-block wide orb spam section into a mirror portal, then four more frame-perfect timings with low visibility and constant speed-, gravity- and mirror portals, before a transition featuring a Clubstep monster background decoration and a decoration reading 'BYE!'
- 25-34%: The drop of the level starts with a triple-speed mini-ship, with an immediate frame-perfect timing through the invisible teeth of a Clubstep monster, a trick second monster, then a mirror portal and moderately tight half-speed curved flying, another triple-speed timing through invisible monster teeth and another half-speed curved passage.
- 34-42%: After a short mini-cube transition is a relatively easy normal speed mini-ball section that uses toggle triggers to mimic 'orb masking', a deprecated technique of overlapping multiple orbs in the same position to make a 'layered orb' and requires each input to be buffered to avoid activating the underlying pink orbs.
- 42-49%: The player enters another relatively easy section featuring memory-based UFO gameplay filled with mirror-, size-, gravity- and speed portals.
- 49-55%: The player encounters a ship segment with a design that goes nearly completely dark partway through, requiring diagonal flying, pink orb timings and navigation through gravity, mirror and half-speed changes with little visibility.
- 55-56%: The player enters a simple, brief ball section with invisible spikes.
- 56-63%: A transitional break section follows, a memory-based cube featuring masked orbs the player must buffer in the order of the fifth blue orb falling up, the second blue orb falling down and then an unbuffered input for the third pink orb falling up.
- 63-69%: The player encounters a challenging triple-speed cube and ball dual, both icons having to perform eight frame-perfect timings over quintuple-spikes and one-block-wide gaps respectively, then a brief cube dual where the player can stagger the individual icon jumps to avoid another frame-perfect timing. It is considered the hardest part of the level.
- 69-71%: The player enters a brief mini-ball section with their vision obscured mainly by erratic speed and mirror portals.
- 71-77%: After a drop from the mini-ball section is a mini-cube section containing the '8 Jumps of Hell', eight frame-perfect jumps with speed changes every two jumps, the first of which is obscured due to a mirror portal, before descending steps to the next section.
- 77-79%: The player enters a simple upside-down ship segment containing three columns with spiked gaps, with the second being a trick where the player must slip near a hidden passage above.
- 79-100%: Finally, the player transitions with a background Clubstep monster and the level ends with the infamous memory-based cube maze. The jumping pattern to beat the level is the following (+ is jump and - is fall): +4, -1, +3, -2, +2, -6, +15, -10, +5. A final Clubstep monster appears at the end.

Trivia
[edit | edit source]- Silent clubstep was rated on 18 July 2022 and placed at #4 on the Demonlist on 11 August 2022, above Firework and below Sakupen Circles.
- This addition pushed Macabre into the Extended List and Missing Benefits into the Legacy List.
- On 23 April 2023, the placement of Avernus briefly pushed Silent clubstep out of the Top 5 of the Demonlist. The level was then moved from #6 to #3, above Slaughterhouse and below Avernus.
- This change pushed Abyss of Darkness out of the Top 5 of the Demonlist.
- Due to this change, Silent clubstep was technically Top 1 for 47 days before Acheron was placed.
- Silent clubstep used to be one of the most disliked levels in Geometry Dash.
- Silent clubstep was ranked #69 in Geometry Dash Today's list of 'The Top 100 Greatest Geometry Dash Levels Of All Time'.
- On 7 March 2022, icedcave uploaded a showcase of the official sequel called Silent Clubstep II.[6]
- Skittle Catastrophe is currently verifying the level and has made notable progress, holding the record of 31% and achieving a 38-98% run four times.[7]
- In Update 1.9, Sailent created a buffed and extended remake of Silent clubstep called Sailent Clubstar. It uses the full song.
- Because of Update 2.0, Nautilus2k (Sailent) made a new account for all his levels and transferred all the levels there. The author's name changed to SuperNautilus, so many considered the level deleted.
- Stormfly created and verified a redecorated, nerfed version of Silent clubstep called Silentium Gradas.
- Silentium Gradas was verified on 11 May 2018 and rated in November 2018, becoming the first version of Silent clubstep to be rated.
- Zobros was the first player to beat Silent clubstep while recording in practice mode.[8]
- Zobros's video is the oldest footage of Silent clubstep, showcasing the first real known version of the level.
- ZorroZ Zet made an infamous speed-hacked, nerfed, and cut walkthrough of Silent clubstep.[9]
- ZorroZ Zet's version is the first publicly showcased version of Silent Clubstep, though it was modified.
- ZorroZ Zet's version differs significantly from the official versions.
- One difference is the complete pitch-black dual-cube and infamous ship sections at the beginning of ZorroZ Zet's version, compared to having increased visibility in the official versions; the ship section in ZorroZ Zet's version is also semi-auto, having ceiling platforms to assist.
- Another difference is the transition from the ball section to the UFO section, with a mirror portal in ZorroZ Zet's version but absent in official versions; the reason for its absence is unknown.
- Another difference is that the maze does not have blocks to block off incorrect paths; instead, there are a few different exits at the top, so it is possible to stay above the entire maze to pass.
- ZorroZ Zet's version differs significantly from the official versions.
- ZorroZ Zet's version is the first publicly showcased version of Silent Clubstep, though it was modified.
- There have been roughly eight versions of Silent clubstep in its history.
- The current unnerfed version of Silent clubstep is referred to as the third version. However, the 'true unnerfed' version, the same one on which Zobros did a practice mode run, is referred to as the second version; the first version, the supposed actual true unnerfed version, is unfortunately lost media.
- Comparing the 'true unnerfed' version to the current unnerfed one, the original structure near the end of the drop ship was much more extended downwards, which was later trimmed down in the current version.
- This change was made because the gap was not possible in Update 1.9.[10]

- There was a version of Silent clubstep created by Cyrillic under the account name Sailence. It is believed that Cyrillic wanted to upload his own version as a way to 'restore' Silent clubstep, thinking it had been deleted because he could not find it, given that the level was in the dislike range. He took Silent Clubstep Auto, uploaded by Nautilus2K, and removed the auto to 'restore' the level. However, he made many flaws in the process, such as keeping the slope at the end of the drop ship and accidentally removing the pink pad at the end of '8 Jumps of Hell', along with one of the blue pads after the fourth jump, which caused the fourth and fifth jumps to become skippable. Additionally, the background colour in the dual and the '8 Jumps of Hell' appeared bright red, unlike in any other version. However, this mistake appears to be due to the auto version, not Cyrillic.[11]
- When Silent clubstep was initially made in Updates 1.8 and 1.9, sawblades had a fuller hitbox, which made the drop ship more difficult, before it was shrunk in a later update.
- vitesse, a user known for his GDBot showcases, uploaded an April Fools' video on Silent clubstep in 2019. The video stated that he verified the original version after a fictitious three-year journey (starting from late Update 1.9) was initiated by watching ZorroZ Zet's video, taking 635,000 attempts, as a follow-up to his Orochi video.[12]
- Sailent initially did not intend Silent clubstep to be impossible. However, he made it out of frustration after losing his save data while attempting to hack-verify the original version. Sailent then rebuilt and buffed the level to its current state, mainly focusing on the first 20% and the first ship.[13]
- Sailent never intended the '8 Jumps of Hell' in the unnerfed version of Silent clubstep to be 144FPS frame-perfect jumps, as he believed these jumps were possible on lower FPS, as they were possible on 60FPS via practice mode. The reason is that practice mode checkpoints can change the level's frame alignment and shift the timing windows to make these jumps possible. Because of this mistake, he nerfed them back to 60FPS frame-perfects as intended in the bug-fix update.[14]
- A more decorated level version is called 'silent clubstep new'. Although it has been released to servers, it is currently unrated due to a lack of verification.
- Infamously, Cursed supposedly beat Silent clubstep; however, Cursed accidentally used a 0.9x hitbox multiplier to complete it, making his run invalid and leading to a ban from the Demonlist again. Cursed was eventually unbanned.
- Strylon is trying to jump from Deadlocked to Silent clubstep.[15] As of 22 May 2026, he has beaten the level in two runs—15% and 15-100%.
- RealVet, in a collaboration, has created a redecorated remake of Silent clubstep in Update 2.1 called Eternal Silence.[16] The level was initially a remake of the nerfed version of Silent clubstep.[17] However, after the actual level was verified, this version was updated to the unnerfed version with further decoration and bug fixes. The level is an open verification, and is set to place as Top 1 on the Demonlist once verified and rated.
- The placement of Quanteuse processing on 18 January 2026 pushed Silent clubstep out of the Top 10 of the Demonlist after three and a half years.
- The reason why Silent clubstep stayed in the Top 10 for so long is that its difficulty was heavily underestimated in the past, paired with Update 2.2 that made levels above it (e.g., Acheron) easier to play.
- On 4 May 2026, Silent clubstep was raised from #13 to #11 on the Demonlist. The reason behind this is that the Demonlist team consulted as many victors of the level as they could, asking them how it compares in difficulty to levels such as Avernus, Anathema, Subsuming Vortex, and andromeda, with the majority pointing to Silent clubstep as the hardest one.[25]
- Silent clubstep was the final level rated in Update 2.1 to fall out of the Top 10.
- Both Quanteuse processing and Silent clubstep are also main level remakes (remakes of Clubstep and Blast Processing, respectively), making it the only change that a main level remake pushed out another main level remake.
- The reason why Silent clubstep stayed in the Top 10 for so long is that its difficulty was heavily underestimated in the past, paired with Update 2.2 that made levels above it (e.g., Acheron) easier to play.
