Nathan Pesta, better known as npesta, is an American player and well-known YouTube content creator. He is most known for verifying the level Kenos, along with Deimos by EndLevel, Unearthed, WOW, and Altered Ascent (although the latter two have since been updated and re-verified by Doggie). He also completed Zodiac on 21 June 2022 and Oblivion on 14 February 2023, both of which were his hardest Demons at the time of their respective completions. On his YouTube channel, npesta uploads curated content featuring his commentary, perspective, and opinions on Geometry Dash's levels and the game as a whole. npesta is also the creator of the Extreme Demon Roulette challenge.

His current hardest Demon is Deimos by ItsHybrid, completed on 31 January 2026, though he considers Silentlocked, which he completed on 22 July 2026, to be harder. He is currently attempting to beat Spectre as his next hardest completion.

History

[edit | edit source]

npesta created his YouTube channel on 26 June 2017. His first upload was a completion of Windy Landscape, which he originally beat on 11 March 2017.[1] Afterwards, he conquered other Demons. On 12 July 2017, he started trying to beat Red World Rebirth. In his first progress video, he got 55%.[2] The next day he got 71%.[3] Six days later, after a fail at 96%, he beat the level, making it his hardest Demon at the time.[4]

He took a break from Extreme Demons until he went for the game's most famous Extreme Demon, Bloodbath. On 1 August 2017, he got 44% on it.[5] One week later, he went all the way to 71%,[6] which made him pretty confident. Then, on 23 August 2017, he got 88%, which enraged him quite a bit. npesta then failed at 87%,[7] which he showed in a video titled, 'Extremely Funny Reaction (Bloodbath 87%)'.[8] Finally, on 1 September 2017, he beat Bloodbath, taking him a month.[9]

Following this, npesta skill would start to improve rapidly, as he would complete levels such as Conical Depression,[10] Phobos,[11] Incipient,[12] and more. On 14 July 2018, npesta took on a verification project that would mark him as one of the best players in history. He went for a level harder than Sonic Wave. It was a buffed Phobos remake called Deimos by EndLevel.

Deimos

[edit | edit source]

He did a run of 60-85% that day,[13] then he got 43% five days later,[14] after which he did the last dual 10 times on 2 August 2018.[15] After that day, he did a run from 53-100%.[16] Unfortunately, on 27 August 2018, he took a break from the game because he had to move houses, and he would come back on 14 September 2018.[17]

During this inactivity, npesta made an exposé video aimed at ToshDeluxe, claiming that Tosh had automated parts of the level in his verification video of Devil Vortex. Tosh tried to disprove npesta, but Tosh's points only made npesta more suspicious.[18] He made another exposé video to further detail his points. Once again, Tosh made another video countering npesta's points. npesta got so suspicious that he gathered the Demonlist team to make a video to expose ToshDeluxe. Originally, DiamondSplash uploaded the video, but npesta later uploaded the same video to his channel.[19] The video was a success. Tosh made another video attempting to disprove the Demonlist team,[20] but to no use, for the Demonlist had reasons for Tosh to hack, and most of the community believed npesta.

Finally, npesta returned to Geometry Dash, and he went right back to Deimos. He got 49% four times on 8 November 2018 (two months after he got back),[21] and then he got 56% on 17 November 2018.[22] After this video, he took another verification project. The level was a mega-collaboration called Unearthed. He verified it on 3 December 2018, taking about 2,000 attempts. npesta said this verification was special for him.[23] After that, npesta went straight to Deimos again. He got 66% on 2 January 2019.[24] After that, on 10 February 2019, he did a run of 32-100%.[25] The same day, he got 75%.[26] Six days later, he got 86%.[27] Then finally, on 17 February 2019, npesta verified Deimos after eight months, 75,000 attempts, and 500 hours of playing time.[28]

Post-Deimos

[edit | edit source]

npesta was then very motivated to play levels, beating Erebus[29] and getting 40% on Zodiac.[30] But then he took on another verification that TrusTa hosted to verify on 22 March 2019. This level is called WOW and is known for its infamous spam parts. That day, npesta got 31%[31] and did a run of 62-100% the day after.[32] Then, on 5 April 2019, he got a run of 30-100%.[33] On 9 April 2019, he got 66% on the level,[34] and then 88% on 11 April 2019.[35] Finally, on 22 April 2019, npesta verified WOW, taking 20,312 attempts and a bit over a month.[36]

Kenos

[edit | edit source]

About a week later, npesta took on another verification project, Kenos, a super-buffed and extended rebirth of Sakupen Hell.

On 29 April 2019, npesta did a 64-100% run on Kenos. Then, after 18,000 attempts, he got to 53%, making it to the second half of the level. On 23 May 2019, npesta achieved a 31-100% run and then got 69% 41 days later. He then achieved 83% on 13 August 2019.

On 16 September 2019, npesta heavily buffed Kenos because he switched to a 240Hz monitor and found it not difficult enough at that frame rate. He started getting more deaths, over 100, in fact, past 70% and 80%, and on 17 November 2019, he did an impressive 17-100% run on Kenos, which, before completion, he would end up doing three times. On 30 November 2019, npesta got 90% on the level, making it past the two difficult wave parts he had struggled with.

On 14 December 2019, he finally verified Kenos on stream after eight months and 135,320 attempts. The stream peaked at 1,000 viewers, making the verification one of the biggest moments of his gaming career.

Reddit user u/AGT-AM posted a video on 16 December 2019, of someone beating Stereo Madness in practice mode on the popular meme subreddit r/okbuddyr*tard, with npesta's face-cam and the Kenos reaction in the corner.[37] This meme inspired people to make more memes, such as the C**k Island speedrun,[38] the Google Earth Cat speedrun,[39] and the black emoji speedrun.[40] These memes caused npesta to have a page made about him on Know Your Meme,[41] and even getting noticed by PewDiePie.[42] PewDiePie said that npesta was an 'Impossible Game Speedrunner', which resulted in RobTop calling out PewDiePie on Twitter.[43]

Toward the end of December 2019, npesta would stream Sakupen Hell, the original level for its remake, Kenos. He believed he could beat it quickly since he had verified the buffed remade version. However, after npesta beat the level, he asked Doggie (npesta's editor who applied for the position just days earlier) to edit together a stream highlights-based video as content for npesta's channel.[44] Because of this video, the concept of stream highlights received a massive boost in the Geometry Dash community. People such as Technical, Juniper, AmorAltra, and Golden hired editors such as Lake Iverson, ViewSonic, RiceNStuff, PoisonArch, and Doggie himself to make stream highlights for their channels. npesta has stuck with the stream highlights format since the Sakupen Hell video, with Doggie continuing to edit for him.

Post-Kenos

[edit | edit source]

He would pick up Altered Ascent later on. He eventually verified this in over a week on 4 April 2020.[45]

On 31 July 2020, npesta had the idea for a community challenge titled Extreme Demon Roulette. The classic version of this challenge features the Main List and the Extended List of the Demonlist. In this challenge, the player must generate 100 levels and achieve a certain percentage on each level; the percentage increases by 1% for each new level. The challenge progresses until the player gives up or reaches the end by completing an Extreme Demon 100%. The challenge blew up in the community instantly, with famous players such as knobbelboy,[46] GuitarHeroStyles,[47] EricVanWilderman,[48] and Dorami[49] playing the challenge multiple times. Players have also created modified versions of the challenge, such as NCat and GDVenom, who created the Extreme Challenge Roulette.[50]

On 6 October 2020, npesta went live on Twitch to address the issues that had arisen due to unnecessary hate and jokes about him stemming from his Kenos reaction meme. He stated that although he pretended like it was all cool, it was, in reality, not so, and it hurt him considerably, and he finally revealed it. He also pointed out that he is speaking for everyone in the Geometry Dash community, such as Technical, Juniper, and others, who have received unfair hate. In short, his main points were:

  • Anyone who decides to hurt someone else mentally, on the internet, or through any means is a loser, and it is not worth trying to get back at them, as they are doing so because they are frustrated in life and want to spread it to others.
  • Anyone who wants to make fun of someone for no reason and without permission should not think that what he is doing is not a big deal; rather, it does hurt.

He requested the community to avoid fighting amongst one another and not try to get back at the mentally unstable, stating that 'there is no point, and it is not going to get you anywhere good'.

On 24 December 2020, he went live on YouTube after leaving Twitch, for an unknown reason at the time. In this stream, he stated that he would attempt to beat the Extreme Demon Roulette and had set rules allowing him to automatically skip any level that hurt his eyes, as well as that the roulette is meant to span multiple sessions and that he would try to beat it by continuing to play until 100%.[51] Six days later, he revealed the reason for leaving Twitch was that his email was hacked. He was able to recover all his social media accounts with this email, except for one: his Twitch account.[52]

On 5 January 2021, after 32,376 attempts, npesta beat Bloodlust on stream after five deaths at TMNGaming's part and two deaths at the final spike at 98%.[53]

On 15 March 2021, npesta hinted that something very fortunate had happened to him and that he would announce it later that week. Sure enough, on 17 March 2021, he released a video announcing that he had gotten his Twitch account back three days earlier and would no longer be streaming on YouTube.[54] He stated that he would be celebrating this with a Marbles On Stream stream.

Extreme Demon Roulette completion

[edit | edit source]

As stated above, on 24 December 2020, npesta began his attempt to beat the entire Extreme Demon Roulette. He gave himself five skips that he could use on any level and free skips for certain levels that he could not play because of his astigmatism.

At first, he got Sakupen Hell for 1%, but he gave up immediately because the level was impossible to fail at 1%. He started another round afterwards:

  • 1%: Dimension Breaker
  • 2%: Sunset Sandstorm
  • 3%: VendetTa

However, npesta accidentally got 4% on VendetTa, which caused him to skip a percentage. He restarted the roulette again. It went as follows:

  • 1%: Wasureta
  • 2%: Tartarus
  • 3%: Infernal Abyss
  • 4%: Fabricated Thoughts
  • 5%: Fusion Z
  • 6%: Ziroikabi

  • 26%: Molten Gear
  • 27%: Deimos (EndLevel)
  • 28%: Lucid Nightmares
  • 29%: super probably level (free skip)
  • 30%: Dark Flare
  • 31%: Fabrication
  • 32%: Tenth Circle (considered counting this as a free skip, but decided not to)
  • 33%: Killbot (free skip)
  • 34%: The Yandere (fluked the hardest part of the level, which was JonathanGD's)
  • 35%: Hyper Paracosm
  • 36%: Bausha Vortex (free skip)
  • 37%: kowareta
  • 38%: Under lavaland
  • 39%: xo
  • 40%: Yatagarasu
  • 41%: Cold Sweat (free skip)

  • 49%: Biohazard (free skip, even though he did not originally consider it to be one)
  • 50%: Phobos
  • 51%: Ancestral Calamity
  • 52%: BuTiTi III
  • 53%: Dimension Breaker
  • 54%: Betrayal of Fate
  • 55%: SubSonic
  • 56%: distraught
  • 57%: Silentium Gradas (57% is an auto part, but Luqualizer found a frame-perfect timing that made it possible to fail there)
  • 58%: Athanatos
  • 59%: Ethereal Artifice
  • 60%: The Hell Zone
  • 61%: Occult Outcry (free skip)
  • 62%: The Hell Bird
  • 63%: Mystic
  • 64%: Dolos
  • 65%: Rate Demon
  • 66%: Bloodbath
  • 67%: Kenos
  • 68%: Audio Expulsion
  • 69%: Bass Cave (he put increasingly complicated math equations on the screen to replace the number 69)
  • 70%: Hateful Reflection (free skip)
  • 71%: Artificial Ascent
  • 72%: Missing Benefits
  • 73%: Altered Ascent
  • 74%: Sonic Wave (free skip)
  • 75%: Shock Breaker (switched back from YouTube to Twitch)
  • 76%: Falcon16
  • 77%: Balengu Vortex (free skip)
  • 78%: ElectroLux
  • 79%: Carcano
  • 80%: Arctic Lights
  • 81%: Spectrum Cyclone
  • 82%: Low Death
  • 83%: The Golden (used his first skip due to the level being extremely difficult)
  • 84%: Breakout Redux
  • 85%: Step To Hell (fluked from 26%)
  • 86%: Belloq
  • 87%: Macabre (used his second skip due to his experience of this level being extremely unfun, long, and luck-based)
  • 88%: 2 1 1 (fluked from 58%)
  • 89%: Demonicat
  • 90%: Sakupen Hell (predicted that Sakupen Hell would pop up)
  • 91%: Chromatic Haze
  • 92%: Necromancer (gaslighted by Doggie into thinking this would be for 91% and thinking it would not come up when he instead rolled Chromatic Haze)
  • 93%: Ouroboros
  • 94%: Digital Descent
  • 95%: Stalemate Redux
  • 96%: Celestial Force
  • 97%: Black Blizzard (predicted that Black Blizzard would pop up)
  • 98%: Crimson Planet (used his third skip due to the level's extreme difficulty and the only way to fail at 98% not working all the time)
  • 99%: SPEEDRUN (used his fourth skip due to it being impossible to fail at 99%)
  • 100%: Zodiac

Finally, after hundreds of streams and 487 days, npesta rolled the level he would have to complete to beat the Extreme Demon Roulette on 25 April 2022. To the extreme surprise of him and his Twitch chat, it was Zodiac, which also resulted in him having to beat Zodiac as his new hardest Demon after two years of having Kenos as his hardest. Right after he rolled Zodiac, he satirically exclaimed, 'The odds of this happening are impossible!'

He would finally complete Zodiac on 20 June 2022,[55] accomplishing both the completion of the Extreme Demon Roulette and the completion of a new hardest on the list, dethroning Kenos after 919 days. Unfortunately, he only beat the Extreme Demon Roulette with 99 points because he had to skip a percentage at 24%. If he had used his first skip on Astral Divinity (24%), the level he would have rolled for 100% would have been Carnage Mode (a level that he has already beaten).

Oblivion

[edit | edit source]

In early February 2023, npesta tweeted about a secret project he had been immersed in, hinting at why he had not been streaming Geometry Dash much in the past few months.[56] His tweet, mentioning his attempt count as 59,070, sparked speculation that he was tackling a level tougher than Kenos. A week later, on 14 February, he triumphantly announced his completion,[57] followed by a reply that stated '12/14/19 - 2/14/23',[58] confirming speculation of his surpassing of Kenos. On 19 February 2023, npesta posted a video revealing his secret project, Oblivion, not through his usual stream highlights but his pre-recorded footage from the past four months.[59]

In the video, he revealed that his motivation stemmed from EricVanWilderman's 12 Demons of Christmas 2022 challenge, which set a deadline of 23 December. He began his journey in early November 2022, believing he had more than enough time before the deadline. However, unexpected events such as illness and family matters arose in mid-December, complicating his journey. He missed the initial deadline, and this crushed his motivation; however, encouragement from loved ones reignited it. Despite falling sick again in January, npesta resumed his grind, culminating in the completion of Oblivion on 14 February 2023, after 62,378 attempts.[60] Five days later, he shared a highlights video edited by Doggie, along with his own segment detailing the challenges he faced from mid-December to mid-January.

Edge of Destiny

[edit | edit source]

Following Oblivion, npesta began playing Edge of Destiny, streaming it around 70 times from February to September. He dedicated much of his time to runs, and his first notable progress would arrive in his eighth stream, achieving 40%. His motivation dwindled when RETURN 0, a level he was set to verify, got cancelled in April 2023. He discussed in a stream on 16 April that this left him uncertain about his channel's future and worried about finances. However, he persisted.

On 8 May, he achieved a significant milestone, reaching 79%. However, it took nearly five months before he surpassed this achievement, reaching 82% on 3 September. Despite this progress, npesta felt he was losing stamina and didn't view his success as a significant victory. Nevertheless, his stream on 3 September triggered a substantial financial boost through SUBtember, resulting in a generous outpouring of support from his viewers.[61] Just 16 days after hitting 82%, he finally beat the level after 89,455 attempts.

Conflicts

[edit | edit source]
#freenpesta

On 25 August 2020, npesta was unjustly demonetised on YouTube for alleged content reuse, prompting him to abruptly end a 2 1 1 live stream.[62] This sparked the #freenpesta hashtag on Twitter, gaining traction with support from many players and creators, including RobTop himself.[63] The hashtag surged to #8 on Twitter's trending page, marking the first trending Geometry Dash-related hashtag. YouTube, responding to the outcry, swiftly reinstated npesta's monetisation privileges. Afterwards, thoughts of the 2018 #freeriot campaign resurfaced—a failed Twitter effort to restore Riot's channel after a mistakenly prolonged ban. Due to the uproar over #freenpesta, which caught YouTube's eye, some suggested highlighting the older hashtag to the team. Remarkably, YouTube took notice, prompting the reinstatement of Riot's channel after a two-year termination.[64]

Gunslinga Corridor Drama

In November 2020, npesta posted his completion video for Gunslinga Corridor by DeadlyPlayz (then EvilPrisma),[65] expressing dislike for the level and questioning its praise. Despite npesta urging his viewers not to send hate to EvilPrisma, they sent death threats and called for him to quit Geometry Dash anyway in response to npesta's criticism of the level. After the drama, concerns arose about whether npesta could continue critiquing levels, given that his fans were harassing the creators of levels he criticised. He then addressed the fallout on stream, acknowledging his fans' misconduct while defending his right to express his opinion. Despite efforts to resolve the issue, EvilPrisma left the game following the incident.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • npesta has gathered over 377,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel.[66]
  • npesta became a moderator on 28 February 2020.
    • npesta was unmodded on 2 March 2022 due to inactivity, along with KNOEPPEL, Mazl, Balloons, and NoobLookingPro.
  • npesta's three favourite Extreme Demons are Black Blizzard, Low Death, and Conical Depression, all created by KrmaL. All three levels got an SS rank on his Extreme Demon tier list.[67]
  • npesta previously avoided listening to the in-game music of different levels and instead listened to other video game OSTs because he found the in-game songs repetitive. However, he has reverted to using levels' music since he beat Freedom08 in April 2021.
  • npesta only wears white T-shirts, which has become a running joke among his fanbase.
    • The second most expensive channel point reward on Twitch, which triggers npesta to wear a different colour shirt, costs 500,000 channel points.
  • npesta reached 50,000 subscribers on YouTube on 8 April 2020, 100,000 on 4 August 2020, and 200,000 on 8 July 2021.
  • npesta has astigmatism, which causes him to have blurred vision, trouble focusing on things, and experience eye pain if he looks at specific light patterns.
    • This makes npesta unable to play levels such as Killbot, Glowy, and most Nine Circles levels.
    • As such, Glide, Nhelv, and Gang have a 'npesta mode', which is activated by an invisible trigger at the beginning of the level.
  • npesta is actually allergic to grass, as mentioned in the video by Secret Way titled 'An Unfiltered Conversation with Npesta'.[68]
  • Both npesta and Technical participated in the Minecraft Ultimate Hunger Games championship. He got far before being killed by the popular Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade.
  • npesta used to have extremely intense and loud reactions to close fails and beat Extreme Demons very frequently. Some notable reactions include npesta's 96% death runs on both Red World Rebirth and Bloodbath, as well as his successful completions of both levels. Additionally, his accomplishments in completing Phobos and Ziroikabi stand out. However, after his Kenos meme of emphasising his reaction, he is much less emotional. There are still a few exceptions, however.
  • Levels npesta verified, namely Deimos by EndLevel and Kenos, coincidentally displaced Plasma Pulse Finale from both the Top 5 and the Top 10 rankings.
  • npesta had a series called 'Waving with npesta', where members of MoN (mods of npesta), such as Deados35, Jollow2500, Jjustalex, Steven, and more, picked out wave challenges for him to play in a single stream. The two more common friends are ArtsiBurn908, who picks out more serious challenges, and Croanix, who often uses jokes, non-challenges, and challenges much out of npesta's skill range (namely VSC, Vanuatu, Flutterwonder, etc.) for comedic effect. The series had ten episodes, ranging from 26 January 2020 to 17 August 2021.
    • The last episode also marked the end of his almost two-year-long streak of uploading content once every Sunday, which started with his completion of Sakupen Hell on 26 December 2019. He had to end the streak because he enrolled in college.
  • npesta's favourite day of the week is Thursday as he beat Low Death, Titan Complex, Ocular Miracle, 2 1 1, and Epsilon all on that day.
  • npesta's favourite level is Lit Fuse, and his least favourite level is Bass Cave.
  • npesta's Twitch channel became partnered and verified on 7 August 2020, and his YouTube channel became verified on 22 December 2020.
  • npesta failed twice at 98% on Bloodlust and was the second person to do so after Wolvez.
  • On the brink of ending the stream due to his astigmatism, npesta secured his completion of Titan Complex on his final attempt.
  • One of the most popular series on his channel is his 'A Day With' series. It is where npesta plays Extreme Demons out of his skill range or ones he does not want to beat. He does individual runs before having Doggie compile the clips of each run, along with some highlights combined in one video.
    • npesta has made 16 videos in this series, being Tartarus, Renevant, Bloodlust, Zodiac, Deimos by EndLevel, SARY NEVER CLEAR, Sunset Sandstorm, Silent Club, Sonic Wave Infinity, Slaughterhouse, arcturus, Firework, Silent clubstep, LIMBO, Tidal Wave, Kenos, Apocalyptic Trilogy and Every End. Slaughterhouse, arcturus, and Firework were done in one week at the same time and are together in the 'A Week With' video format rather than the 'A Day With' one.
      • npesta did Renevant, taking the suggestion of his Twitter followers, and regretted it due to how boring and frustrating the level was for him.
      • Out of these, the only ones npesta has followed through with beating are Bloodlust and Zodiac.
      • Additionally, the one with Deimos was a revisit, as npesta had verified it around a year prior. The same goes for Kenos, which he verified five years prior.
      • The only reason npesta did Sunset Sandstorm was that he had no ideas for content for the week and needed something desperately that would not be too hard to do before the week ended. He also saw this as a double opportunity: if he got this level in roulette, he would have had prior practice and would not need to start from scratch. He did not end up rolling Sunset Sandstorm for the roulette.
      • The longest run npesta has achieved in this series was 51% on Deimos.
      • npesta was excited while filming the Sonic Wave Infinity video. He stated that since he had started uploading content in December 2019, he had been looking forward to making a video for this level.
      • The hardest Demon npesta has done in this series is Tidal Wave.
      • The Demon that took him the most runs was also Tidal Wave, which npesta did in 26 runs. Tidal Wave also took him the highest number of attempts of any level, with 22,219.
      • Excluding the levels npesta did in the 'A Week With' video, the only levels that took him more than one day were SARY NEVER CLEAR, Silent clubstep, and Tidal Wave.
      • npesta wanted to do one for Cold Sweat, but as the level's wave-section is extremely taxing on his eyes even with Low Detail Mode, and due to there being no 'npesta mode' for the level, he had to give up.
      • On average, each level takes about nine runs to complete.
      • npesta released a video titled 'A Day With: NPESTA', which highlighted what his daily routine was.
  • npesta broke the world record for a Marbles on Stream track twice in a row, which he believes is the rarest thing to happen to him.
    • npesta's first world record for the track 'Mountain Pass 2' was set during his first ever Marbles on Stream stream by Twitch user akakakakak1, but it was later beaten. Later, during his first Twitch stream upon returning to the platform, npesta reclaimed his world record in one go. The record was set by Twitch user pokemonmaster8985.
      • Per his promise to give VIP to whoever beats the world record for him, npesta gave VIP to pokemonmaster8985.
    • npesta says this might be rarer than when he got the song 'Shop' to play three times in a row in a shuffled playlist of 101 Undertale OST tracks during his 71st Kenos stream, which has around a one-in-a-million chance of happening.
  • npesta has a dog of the breed Jack Russell Terrier named Elsie.

  • npesta was the set verifier of RETURN 0 by MindCap, the former sequel and continuation to the story of LIMBO. MindCap has since cancelled the level, and it is unclear whether he will return to the project.
  • With the rolling of Zodiac as the final level of the roulette, the hardest levels available on the Demonlist before the generation of the roulette npesta did not roll were Renevant and Cognition.
  • npesta has 51% and 51-100% on the former Top 5 challenge level, Flutterwonder.
  • npesta has autism, which he revealed in a discussion about health.
  • After beating Zodiac, npesta stated that he believes Kenos is harder than Zodiac, despite the former being lower on the Demonlist at the time. It stemmed from Zodiac, which consists mainly of slower speeds and is relatively easy on the eyes, neither of which applies to Kenos.
    • On 7 March 2025, Kenos would be moved above Zodiac on the Demonlist, validating this opinion as well as retrospectively giving npesta a Top 1 verification.
  • npesta once accidentally clicked the moderator button on the level Shitty Conical Depression and sent it for a star-rate on stream, thinking it was the back button.[69]
